New Delhi,
September 7: I’m blessed to have seen spas worldwide. I’ve tried to stick
to the authentic and the effective,’’ says Kamayani Kanwar, who
launched Asian Roots, a spa in Safdarjung Enclave on Monday. Delhi
is blessed too. Another spa, called Amatrra, is coming up at Hotel
Ashok in the next few weeks. ‘‘The idea is to make spas a part of
the daily lifestyle so that you don’t have to wait for that rare
holiday to rejuvenate yourself,’’ says Ashit Sud, MD of Mayar Group
that’s behind the venture.
Amatrra (which means the cosmic silence between two Oms) includes
features like a vichy shower imported from Japan and a floatarium
shaped like a womb. The shower is designed to work on the seven
chakras of the body while the floatarium is meant to help in
insomnia and jet lag. ‘‘One hour of relaxation on the floatarium is
equal to four hours of sound sleep,’’ promises Sud. You can also get
Chakra therapy done and your prakriti diagnosed through a
specialised software. ‘‘We advise you on treatments, clothes, gems,
oils and even which mantras to chant,’’ says Ashit’s brother Abhit,
the director of the firm.
Asian Roots lists body therapies like
Shiatsu message, Javanese lulur and caviar firming treatment.
Kanwar, who has been teaching yoga for about three years, will also
take classes. ‘‘I believe in the valuable philosophies of our
country, and I want to pass them on undiluted,’’ she says. She
happens to be the wife of Raaja Kanwar of the Apollo Tyres family.
She was also a singer in the three-member pop group called Models
that was launched in 1995.
Both the spas lay stress on mental well-being. Meditation rooms
are a prominent feature. Amatrra also has a swimming pool and a
technogym. It will be open to members only. An annual package costs
Rs 2 lakh. Asian Roots is a walk-in spa where most therapies cost
between Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000. The caviar body treatment comes for
Rs 7,250. We said caviar ... did you expect less?
